Our Lord often used parables to get his message across. Try
this modern story - "Footprints"
A
Housewife's Prayer:
LORD in the daily round, the common
task,
The little niggling needs that each day brings,
Give me a spirit that will rise, I ask, Above the tyranny of
little things.
Of little things, the petty jars and frets,
The trivial cares that make a woman's day,
The disappointments and the small upsets
That prick the nerves and tongue
and temper fray.
GIVE me 0 LORD, the vision that can see
Beauty in homely tasks, in work well done,
Give me the courage that will cheerfully accept my lot, nor
wish an easier one.
Give me perspective, that the little wigs may.keep their little
places,
Nor overbear the faith and hope that are the spirit's wings,
to
rise in Thee,
Dear Lord; grant this my prayer. |

Prayer
for Motherhood:
0 glorious Saint Gerard,
powerful intercessor before God, and wonder worker of our day,
I call upon you and seek your help.
You who always fulfilled God's will on earth, help me to do
God's holy will.
Beseech the Master of life, from whom all paternity proceeds,
that I may conceive and raise children who will please God in
this life, and be heirs to the kingdom of heaven.
Amen. |

Prayer
in Honor of Saint Lucy:
0
God, our Creator and Redeemer, mercifully hear our prayers that
as we venerate Your servant, Saint Lucy, for the light of faith
You bestowed upon her, You would vouchsafe to increase and preserve
this same light in our souls, that we may be able to avoid evil,
to do good and to abhor nothing so much as the blindness and
the darkness of evil and of sin. Relying on Your goodness, 0
God, we humbly ask You, by the intercession of Your servant,
Saint Lucy, that You would give perfect vision to our eyes,
that they may serve for Your greater honor and glory, and for
the salvation of our souls in this world, that we may come to
the enjoyment of the unfailing light of the Lamb of God in paradise.
Saint Lucy, virgin and martyr, hear our prayers and obtain our
petitions. Feast day:

The
Prayer of St Francis of Assisi:
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. |

Christmas
Novena to Obtain Favors:
Hail and blessed be
the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the
most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing
cold.
In that hour vouchsafe, 0 my God! to hear my prayer and grant
my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and
of His blessed Mother. Amen. (It
is piously believed that whoever recites the above prayer fifteen
times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (30th Nov.) until Christmas
will obtain what is asked.)
Imprimatur
Michael Augustine
Archbishop of New York
New York, February 6, 1897

Motorist's
Prayer: Grant me, O Lord,
a steady hand and watchful eye.
That no one shall be hurt as I pass by.
Thou gavest life, I pray no act of mine may take
away
or mar that gift of Thine.
Shelter those, dear Lord, who bear my company,
from the evils of fire and all calamity.
Teach me, to use my car for others need;
Nor miss through love of undue speed
The beauty of thy world; that thus I may
with joy and courtesy go my way.
St. Christopher, holy patron of travelers, protect me
and lead me safely to my destiny.
Amen. |

Prayer
to Our Mother of perpetual help:
O Mother of Perpetual Help, grant that
I may ever invoke thy most powerful name, which is the safeguard
of the living and the salvation of the dying. O Purest Mary,
O Sweetest Mary, let thy name henceforth be ever on my lips.
Delay not, O Blessed Lady, to help me whenever I call on thee,
for, in all my needs, in all my temptations I shall never cease
to call on thee, ever repeating thy sacred name, Mary, Mary.
O what consolation, what sweetness,
what confidence, what emotion fill my soul when I pronounce
thy sacred name, or even only think of thee. I thank God for
having given thee, for my good, so sweet, so powerful, so
lovely a name. But I will not be content with merely pronouncing
thy name: let my love for thee prompt me ever to hail thee,
Mother of Perpetual Help.
Then recite 9 Hail Marys. |

Prayer
to St. Martin De Porres:
Most
glorious Martin de Porres,
whose burning charity embraced not only the needy brethren,
but also the very animals of the field,
splendid example of charity,
we hail thee and invoke thee!
From that high throne which thou dost occupy,
deign to listen to the supplications of thy needy brethren that,
by imitating thy virtues,
we may live contented in that state in which God has placed
us
and carrying with strength and courage our cross,
we may follow in the footsteps of Our Blessed Redeemer
and His most afflicted Mother,
that at last we may reach the Kingdom of Heaven
through the merits of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen. |

Prayer
to The Holy Family:
Lord
Jesus Christ, who,
being made subject to Mary and Joseph,
didst consecrate domestic life by Thine ineffable virtues;
grant that we,
with the assistance of both,
may be taught by the example of Thy holy Family
and may attain to its everlasting fellowship.
Who livest and reignest, world without end.
Amen. |

The Beatitudes:
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall iherit the land.
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for
they shall have their fill.
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the
children of God.
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Saint
Theresa's Prayer:
May today
there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to
be
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born
of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on
the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God. Let this
presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom
to sing, dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us. |
